I’m so excited about this new branding and I’m in love with the new design. Designing my own site is exciting because I can draw on all the things I’ve learned and grown to love over the last few years of designing websites. When I started my last blog I was a blog and design novice – I had no branding, logo or design plan, and kind of just chose things as I went along. Though this new design is similar to my old site (The Crafty Frugaler) it is a lot more evolved, colourful and cohesive.
This time around I knew that branding is a vital part of site design. So I created myself a simple and versatile logo, and a branding package that I could refer to every time I’m designing something for the site. Over the years I’ve fallen in love with white space, watercolour paintbrushes, uppercase letters, and the combination of teals and blues and pinks. When I finally decided to rebrand I knew that I wanted to take everything I loved and combine it to make my ideal site. It’s one thing designing websites for clients – but it’s an entirely different adventure designing something for myself and being able to customize everything so perfectly to my own taste.
I love the logo that I created for The White Corner Creative because it’s so simple, yet a perfect description of my new name and brand. I can put it on all of the designs associated with my site to remind everyone where they came from.
One of the things I’m most excited about on this site is the format of the archives. I’ve always loved the grid type layout of images, but never had the time (or know-how) to implement it on my old blog. Now I’ve finally figured it out and made it a reality on The White Corner Creative. If you click on one of the categories over in the sidebar you’ll be taken to a page with smaller images and short excerpts. This view also applies when you search the site or view a tag archive.
I’m really excited about having a set branding plan starting out fresh, because now I can start all of my content from that point. On the old blog – every time I attempted to make a design or branding change, I would go through all the featured images I made for posts and redesign them all, upload them all, only to be unsatisfied and redesign them again in a few months. Now I’m making sure that I have a plan I love before starting anything, and I can stick to it for a long time to come.
What do you think of the design and the site?
I’d love to know your thoughts or any areas that you’d like to see improved!
